How it works

A realistic plan you’ll actually stick with

Setting reasonable goals is an important part of your success. We start with where you are, focus on good form and build strength gradually, so you can push to your limit but not past it.

1

Assessment

An in-person movement assessment (and yes, it’s a workout!). Fitness tests check strength and mobility, spot any movement patterns to adjust, and we talk through your goals. Training with a partner? You each get your own assessment.

2

Custom program

A 4- or 8-week program designed for your fitness level and goals, and for any injuries or joint concerns. Quality over quantity, with clear form cues and progressions.

3

Train

Every session includes a warm-up, resistance training and a cool down. It’s encouraging, judgment-free and fun, and adjusted to how you feel that day.

4

Extra support

Optional off-day workouts sent through an app, plus nutrition coaching from a NASM Certified Nutrition Coach: practical fueling tips for energy, strength and body-composition goals. Nothing extreme.

Your training

What training with Renée looks like

Every program starts with how you move today. Sessions mix strength, mobility and balance, with plenty of single-leg and core work, and they change as you get stronger.

Day one

Your first session: a movement assessment

Renée watches how your shoulders and hips move, then takes you through simple strength tests for your upper body, lower body and core. She notes how each one feels and compares your left and right sides, so your program gives your weaker side a little extra attention from day one.

  • Shoulder & hip mobility
  • Scapular pulls & push-ups
  • Squat
  • Single-leg squat
  • Single-leg deadlift
  • Single-arm lat pull
  • Overhead press
  • TRX rows
  • Elevated push-ups
  • Dead hang
  • Wall sit
  • Core holds
  • Rotation & anti-rotation

It’s a real workout, and it gives you a baseline to retest at your monthly check-ins.

Every session

A typical session

  1. Warm up and breatheShoulder and hip mobility, wall angels, hip circles and a few minutes of breathing work to get your core switched on.
  2. Strength supersetsExercises are paired, often an upper-body pull or push with a lower-body move, so you get more done while each muscle group rests.
  3. Core finisher and stretchDead bugs, bird dogs, hollow holds or Pallof presses, then a stretch to cool down.

Exercises you’ll get to know

A few favorites that show up in most programs, adjusted to your level:

Single-leg Romanian deadlift

Glutes, hamstrings and balance, one side at a time.

90° step-downs

Slow, controlled single-leg strength for stairs, hills and everyday life. Knee-friendly, too.

Single-leg bridges & hip thrusts

Focused on the posterior chain: stronger glutes and hamstrings and a steadier pelvis.

Rows & lat pulldowns

Pulling strength for good posture and capable shoulders.

Pallof press

Teaches your core to resist rotation, then to rotate with control.

Dead bugs & bird dogs

Core control while your arms and legs move, the foundation for everything else.

Dead hangs

Grip and shoulder strength, and a fun number to beat at your check-ins.

Farmer’s carries

Pick up something heavy and walk tall: grip, posture and whole-body stability.

You’ll also meet sumo and goblet squats, wall sits, Turkish get-ups, hip airplanes and more as you progress.

How you’ll progress

Small, steady steps, so you can push to your limit but not past it.

Control first

Good form and a stable pelvis and shoulders come before heavier weights.

A rep or two more

Once a move feels solid, you add a rep or two.

Slower lowering

Taking the lowering phase slowly makes the same exercise more challenging, with no extra load.

Longer holds

Time builds on hangs, bridges, wall sits and core holds.

Extra care for your weaker side

Your weaker side often goes first and gets a little extra practice, so both sides get stronger together.

Monthly check-ins

Renée retests things like your dead hang and key lifts, so you can see how far you’ve come.

Pregnant or postpartum? Renée adapts exercises and positions for each stage, with extra attention on breathing, core and pelvic-floor work. Check with your doctor or midwife before you start.

Building stronger bones? Strength training that safely and progressively loads the skeleton, like weighted squats, hinges, carries and other weight-bearing work, can help prevent osteopenia and osteoporosis and help manage them if you’ve already been diagnosed. Renée tracks your estimated bone mass with the Hume scale so you can see the trend over time. If you have a diagnosis, check with your doctor before you start.

Progress tracking

Track your progress with Hume Health

Renée uses the Hume Body Pod, a smart body-composition scale from Hume Health, at your check-ins. With sensors in the platform and in a pull-up handle, it estimates more than weight: body fat %, muscle mass, body water, visceral fat and metabolic age. The free Hume Health app charts your trends week to week and month to month.

On a weight-loss medication like a GLP-1? Regular scans let Renée monitor your estimated muscle and bone mass, so the weight you lose is fat, not the muscle and bone you want to keep, and your strength training is built to protect both.

Bone health, measured. The Body Pod also estimates bone mass, so if you’re working to prevent or manage osteopenia or osteoporosis, you can watch how your bones respond as your training loads the skeleton over time.

1

Regular check-ins

Quick scans at set check-ins, under the same conditions each time, so we follow your trend instead of one day’s number.

2

Muscle vs. fat, not just weight

See whether you’re building muscle and losing fat, even when the number on the scale barely moves.

3

A program that adjusts

Your trends help Renée decide what comes next: more strength work, different cardio or an easier week.

4

Nutrition that fits

If you add nutrition coaching, body-composition changes help fine-tune goals such as daily protein.

Smart-scale readings are estimates, best used to follow trends over time. They are not a medical test or diagnosis. If you have a pacemaker or another implanted medical device, check with your doctor first.

Free group workout

Free weekly Nordic 4×4 group workout

A free group session every week, open to everyone. The Nordic 4×4 is a simple interval workout studied by researchers at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) to build cardio fitness and support heart health.

How it works

  1. Warm up About 10 minutes of easy movement until you’re warm.
  2. 4 × 4 minutes hard Four rounds at high intensity, about 85–95% of your max heart rate. You’ll be breathing hard.
  3. 3 minutes active recovery Easy walking or jogging between rounds to catch your breath.
  4. Cool down Light movement and a stretch to finish.

What the research found

  • In a 2007 NTNU study, 4×4 intervals raised VO2 max (a key measure of fitness) more than steady, moderate running with the same total workload.
  • In NTNU’s five-year Generation 100 study of adults in their 70s, the group doing 4×4 intervals twice a week gained the most fitness and reported better quality of life than the moderate-exercise groups.
  • NTNU researchers note that better fitness is closely linked to a lower risk of early death.

★★★★★
I’ve been working out with Renee for almost 3 months now and it’s been a great experience. Renee keeps workouts interesting and listens to my needs. On certain days I’m feeling more stressed than usual, so we’ll do more explosive workouts. On other days my knee may be feeling discomfort and Renee makes sure to pay attention to that. Renee motivates and encourages me to hit new fitness goals and makes working out way more fun than going to the gym by myself or doing a YouTube workout.
